Waterfowl Hunting in Kansas for Duck and Geese

At Tornado Alley Waterfowl (TAW) we offer waterfowl hunting in Kansas for duck and geese on a wide variety of terrain. We are scouting daily to get our hunters on new birds; we try not to target the same birds day in and day out. These scouting methods can have us hunting ponds, rivers, creeks, sloughs, marshes, agricultural fields, naturally flooded agricultural fields and more. This makes our waterfowl hunts very unique in the sense that you will be hunting different locations daily and getting to see new terrain each time we go to the blind. We have some great scenery here in Kansas with the Flint Hills in our area and Kansas has some amazing sunrises and sunsets during the winter months. Fresh snow on the back roads and fields of Kansas is a sight to see. Many people hear that Kansas is flat. While we do not have huge mountains here, we are definitely not flat. This makes it a challenge sometimes to find out exactly where the birds are going when we are scouting. Large creek bottoms surrounded by trees that obscure agricultural fields or ponds make the scout a challenge that we embrace. We go above and beyond to get our waterfowl hunters on the hunt that they deserve. In many instances your hunt will have birds finishing within 10 yards of you.
We waterfowl hunt in a wide variety of weather conditions, rain, sleet, snow, warm temperatures, and bitter cold. We have access to about 40,000 acres. When our guides are not hunting, they spend their time scouting for the next days’ hunt, which is why we only hunt in the morning or afternoon each day. This is dictated by the bird’s patterns and not us. We waterfowl hunt out of a variety of different blinds which include A-frames, panel blinds, laydown blinds, and permanent blinds. The location of the hunt dictates what blind we use.

On each of our waterfowl hunts, we have at least two trained hunting guides, as well as two finished Labrador retrievers to retrieve the downed game. You are allowed to bring your dog if you choose. If you elect to do so, we need your dog to be steady to the shot and able to work out of a dog blind. We do understand the hunt is yours, however, if we feel that your dog is negatively affecting the outcome of the hunt or is causing a safety issue, we do reserve the right to ask you to put your dog away and we will continue with one of our dogs. The lodges are equipped with outdoor kennels for your companion during your stay here at TAW.
Tornado Alley Duck and Goose Hunting

Upon arrival for your waterfowl hunt, the hunting guides assigned to your group will meet you at your lodge to begin the check-in process. They will check over hunting licenses to ensure everyone has everything that is needed to hunt legally and do some paperwork. We will discuss the game plan for the next day and provide you with your meal options that your group has chosen for the duration of your stay.
A morning or afternoon hunt is dictated by the bird patterns, so we will also let you know when and where we will be waterfowl hunting the next day. Our hunting guides will have the hunt set up for you upon your arrival. We schedule each day's duck or goose hunt with enough time to get settled, enjoy some coffee and good conversation, before shooting light. We take the time to ensure all waterfowl hunters are comfortable hunting out of the chosen blind for the day and discuss safety measures that we need to follow during the hunt. Our guides do not shoot during the hunt unless we are requested to. Even then, we will not shoot with the group until everyone is well into their limit.

Our dogs will help with retrieval of the birds, and our guides make sure to get birds to the correct hunter after each volley. We make every attempt to find all crippled game. Throughout the hunt, birds are attached to a specific game strap that is designated to each hunter. This ensures that birds are properly accounted for, and limits are not exceeded. After the hunt is completed, waterfowl hunters will return to the lodge while the guides pick up from the hunt and head back to headquarters to process birds and hit the road to scout for the next day’s hunt. When we are done scouting, we will reach out to the group and get the game plan set for the next day.
Things to do While Visiting Tornado Alley Waterfowl

Many of our hunters take in some of the sights of our area by touring the countryside in the evening to see the abundant wildlife in our area. There is also a national wildlife refuge nearby that is a huge staging area for migratory birds and this is quite a spectacle.
Waterfowl Hunting Gear

The temperatures can vary greatly here in Kansas, so having the right waterfowl hunting gear is necessary. It is not uncommon to be in a T-shirt one day and layered up the next to brave the bitter cold. Temperatures range from the 50’s to negative 15. We often endure some bitter windchills during the winter months. Unfortunately, we do have to endure some rain at times as well as ice and snow. Be prepared as we will hunt in all conditions.
Hunting gear waterfowl hunters should bring for the hunt should include a blind bag, sunglasses, plugged shotgun, head lamp, ear plugs, base layers, insulated outerwear, a camo beanie, warm gloves, socks, and warm boots (knee boots). Waders are NOT NEEDED for the hunt, but you are more than welcome to bring them to wear if you want them for warmth. Rain gear if rain is forecasted, white beanie or facemask if snow is forecasted. For after the hunt you should bring comfortable clothes for the lodge and a cooler for bird transport.

All Waterfowl Hunting Packages include

All of our waterfowl hunting packages are $650.00 per day per hunter, regardless if you are hunting just ducks or just geese or both.
Our waterfowl hunts include either a morning or afternoon hunt, the meal option each day, lodging, and bird processing. Our hunts and lodging are private to your group alone. We do not mix groups either in the lodge or in the field. All of our hunts are 100% private. We require a minimum of four hunters per day.
As a part of your daily waterfowl hunting package, we include some meal options. Each hunter will be provided each day with either a gift card to a select, locally owned restaurant, or the main course meal option (pork chops, steak, pork butt, ribs). The meal preparation and sides will be your group’s responsibility. These meal options are selected by you prior to the hunt. The lodges are fully equipped with amenities, and an outdoor grill is also supplied for your use. The other meals of the day are not provided.

Duck Hunting Packages and Pricing
We do not put any duck hunters in the field until around Thanksgiving. This is typically when we see our first good push of birds. We do have huntable numbers of birds prior to that but we don’t feel the numbers will produce the duck hunts that we strive for at TAW. Our late November to December dates are good for ducks and geese. We hunt two duck zones: the late zone and southeast zone.

There is a deposit of 50% due upon booking the duck hunting trip to lock in your hunt dates.
If you wish to have someone, come along, that is a non-hunter, there is a fee of $75 per night for lodging for them.
Goose Hunting Packages and Pricing
The Canada goose hunting season runs from the first Wednesday in November through the third Sunday in February. We recommend that if you want to target ducks too, then come when both zones are open to maximize our scouting opportunities and also get you on ducks.

A Canadian goose hunting trip can be booked all season long, so whatever fits your schedule best. We are centrally located, and we will typically get new birds as the fronts come through the area. It is not uncommon for us to gain birds from a warm front pushing up from the south. The late goose season, when the ducks are closed, can be some fantastic hunting! We have lots of birds that are typically migrating back north, and this creates a ton of opportunities to get on some large feeds; Whitefronts are also open, and good numbers are typically here during this time as well. These splits and zones are confusing too many, so feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
